About Sophia Vangelatos
Bio
Sophia Vangelatos (she/her) is a dance artist, choreographer, and educator originally from Sacramento, California. She holds degrees in Dance Performance, Dance Choreography, and Business Economics from the University of California, Irvine, where she trained and performed works by artists such as Lar Lubovitch, Kate Skarpetowska, Loretta Livingston, Tong Wang, Lisa Naugle, Chad Michael Hall, and Charlotte Griffin.
As a choreographer, Sophia’s work has been presented internationally, including New Dances in collaboration with DanceWorks Chicago, Breakthrough by Evanston Dance Ensemble, and various festivals in California and Italy. Her screendance Inter|Intra has been screened at RADfest in Michigan and the Montrose International Screendance Festival. She has performed around the world, including with Hedwig Dances throughout Chicagoland and upcoming international performances in Germany (2022-2025), at the Dumbo Dance Festival for Waeli Wang (2025), and on tour across Italy with the Dance Theatre Music Media Ensemble (2018–2019). Sophia was also a Parsons Dance Company virtual apprentice and a main company member with South Chicago Dance Theatre.
Sophia is passionate about creating collaborative works that highlight performers’ personal experiences and foster empathy and authenticity on stage. She teaches a variety of dance styles to students of all ages and serves as the Company Director of North Shore Elite Talent Company in Glenview, Illinois
