About Mark White

Mark is a Champaign native who has played with many local bands such as Grand Ambassador (indie/powerpop), Nuclei (reggae/R&B), Tell Mama (soul), Aquila (jam-band). He has appeared at the Urbana Sweetcorn Festival, Summer Camp, Dietrich Sesquicentennial Celebration, Villa Grove Ag Days, Pygmalion Festival, Taste of Champaign, Toast to Taylor Street, Street Fest, and the Urbana Folk and Roots Fest. Mark currently plays with the groups AllNighter (top 40), Afro D and Global Soundwaves (hiphop/jazz), Mid-October (indie/acoustic), The Merry Travelers(rock/soul), Triple Play (classic rock), Doublewide Blues Band (blues/funk/soul) and performs his own original jazz fusion music with fellow accompanist James Mauck in their group drOpsy. As a session musician, Mark prides himself on his ability to meld timbrally and stylistically into any project. He also is a proficient audio engineer – most recently he recorded and mixed local percussionist extraordinaire James Mauck’s Forebeat album “Duality”. As a musician and audio engineer he has collaborated with Cynthia Oliver in 2022 and 2023 for February Dance and October Dance respectively. As an accompanist, Mark employs alternate tunings, loopers, effects pedals and other electronic whizbangs and doodads. Playing with and for dancers has quickly become a highlight for him as a musician.
