Julie Verdone

Bio

Julie Verdone (she/her) is an interdisciplinary artist, dance educator, and somatic movement researcher. As a choreographer, she creates embodied languages that emerge in relationship to natural and designed spaces, structures, and social systems. As a teacher, she helps students recognize their own capacity to change and organize through their moving bodies. Her work as a whole leans into the tactile, tender, and truest parts of being alive.  Julie is a Certified Laban/Bartenieff Movement Analyst through Integrated Movement Studies. She received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Alfred University with a dual concentration in Sculpture and Expanded Media, and a minor in Dance. Her interests in participatory performance, immersive art, and social engagement led her to pursue advanced training in experimental dance and theater at the Headlong Performance Institute in Philadelphia. She is a co-founder of bridge+burn collective, a community of queer movement-based artists in Philly who gathered monthly to share embodiment practices and build channels of creative support. She was a Visiting Assistant Professor of Dance at Alfred University, where she taught Postmodern Dance technique and Laban/Bartenieff Movement Analysis.
