About Gillian Ebersole
Bio
Gillian Ebersole (they/them) is a dancer and choreographer, as well as a poet, dance writer, and researcher. They graduated Summa Cum Laude from Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles with a dual degree in Dance and English. Gillian trained with Denver contemporary dance company Wonderbound, Los Angeles Contemporary Dance Company, Whyteberg, Gibney Dance Company, Kade Pyle of Ballez, Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company, and Andres Ramirez of The Funk Box Dance Studio. After moving to Western Massachusetts to work for Jacob’s Pillow, Gillian became a Teaching Artist Fellow as part of the Massachusetts Cultural Council Creative Youth Development program. Gillian performed and presented work at multiple venues in Massachusetts, including Jacob’s Pillow, LOCULUS, McConnell Theater at Simon’s Rock, The Foundry, The Mount, and Chesterwood. They received the 2023 New England Dance Fund for their work why are you all still here.
Gillian’s writing and poetry appear in multiple literary magazines and journals, including The Lindenwood Review, In Parenthese Magazine, Stone of Madness Press, Kissing Dynamite Press, Pomona Valley Review, and The Lavender Review. Their poetry chapbook, The Water Between Us, received the Charlotte Mew Prize and was published by Headmistress Press in 2021.
Gillian is both a certified yoga and Mat Pilates instructor and has taught dance, yoga, and Pilates in studios and community spaces. Inspired by their quest to reconcile a conservative religious upbringing with the expansive nature of queerness, their artistic practice explores queer whimsy, vulnerability, and gentleness.
